The Breweries of Montana
In 1805 President Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the area as well as other western regions. In 1899 the Montana area became the forty first state currently ranking fourth in size. In June of 2007, my wife and I travelled through Montana for the first time and visited thirteen of the twenty craft breweries currently operating in the state. In Montana, the Treasure State, brewpubs are still illegal so what you will find are craft breweries with tasting rooms where you can sample their products.

Currently in the United States, there are between 1400 and 1500 different brewing facilities licensed by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Tax Division, and the appropriate state agency. Most of these brewing facilities are brewpubs(BP), a few are microbreweries(MB)and even fewer are regional(RB)and national breweries(NB). Each quarter a few more of these facilities open and regrettably a few close.
