On the east side of Harrisburg just off the I-83/I-283 interchange and
near the Harrisburg Mall, you will find the newest entry in the
Lancaster Brewing Co's family of craft breweries. This facility opened
in early 2008 and is housed in the former Doc Holidays East building. A
3-bbl brewhouse was purchased to provide the house brewed beers. During
our visit in June of this year, the brewhouse was not yet operational
and the beers were being trucked in from their brewery in Lancaster.
The new Lancaster Brewing Co. plans to offer a wide range of craft
brewed beers including their four flagship beers which are: Strawberry
Wheat Beer, Amish Four Grains Ale, Milk Stout and Hop Hog IPA.
You will notice the above reference to the Amish. The original
Lancaster Brewery at 302 N. Plum Street in Lancaster is located in the
Heart of Amish Country. Some of you may have traveled this area
exploring the gift and antique shops or perhaps one or more of the
outstanding craft breweries in the area. Regardless, this is one of the
better parts of the Keystone State and well worth the time to explore.
Even though Lancaster Brewing Co. in Harrisburg is relatively new,
there has been a memorable moment in its history when Hillary Clinton
showed up on March 18th to participate in a TV documentary being filmed
at the craft brewery. The hopeful (now disappointed) candidate for
President enjoyed some pizza and beer while enjoying the brewpub.
While the brewpub will offer collectibles none were available during
our visit. Ample off street parking was available which is very helpful
for the brewpub hunter. The next time you are in the area, check it
out. I don't think you will be disappointed.
